Report on Progress
by Kenas Odongo
I had a meeting with our Mentor Mother and the team leaders on the surveillance and monitoring scheme for women in business. The report is encouraging: most women are thriving and basically there is much economic transformation in the lives of most beneficiaries.
Many of the households appreciate the idea of entrepreneurship as one of the most brilliant ideas. It was noted that it is not only impacting the beneficiaries but entire households are benefiting
From the survey it was noted that most of the beneficiaries do wish if the capital base for the least loan/grant can rise to at least ksh 10,000 ($75).
The beneficiaries were quick to point out that they are becoming self-reliant and this is improving their ability to get their basic wants and needs.
Regarding the Cistern program: the demand is big since water is a challenge in many homes. The two cisterns that were mounted in April for two beneficiaries currently serve the neighbouring homes with safe drinking water, not just the original recipients.
The rate of absenteeism due to lack of sanitary towels was drastically reduced and retention rate is at 100%
The report also indicates all 40 girls who received partial sponsorship for education are in school.
The only sad news is that we lost one member who died during a Cesarean delivery.
